Claire & Stuart – A Milton Abbey Wedding in the Rain

Claire and Stuart set their beautiful wedding at Milton Abbey in Dorset; a breathtaking Abbey and Boarding School in Milton Abbas, just outside of Blandford Form. With exclusive use of such a glorious Dorset wedding venue, they managed to perfectly match all the grandeur and elegance of Milton Abbey, with the warmth and excitement of their family and friends.

Although some would suggest they were not blessed with the weather (it teemed with rain 90% of their August 17th wedding date), as a photographer I personally felt it was a blessing in disguise. Rain never dampens spirits on occasions like these and in such a setting it only adds to the theatre. Ushered inside by the elements, we were able to capture the scale and grace of Milton Abbey, which made a gorgeous backdrop for the stunning Bride and her wedding party. Plus when we did manage to get outside for some shots amidst the landscaped gardens, the intense richness of colour from the rain soaked foliage was wonderful to work with.

With the wedding breakfast being served in the Abbots Hall there were plenty more opportunities to document some exquisite family moments set against a perfect scene. With the light of a mid-August day illuminating the venue the colours were joyous, not least the very pink Cosmo’s made up for a joke for the couple during the speeches. These were just a handful a little details, such as witty cufflinks and characterised cake toppers that really made the day special to Claire and Stuart.

The day was drawn together beautifully by the venue events planner Laura Haim and we managed to get creative and take that all important group shot using the great staircase. The Bride and Groom took their first dance in the King’s Room before heading off in a camper for a ‘mini-moon’ with the remains of the sweetie buffet. They will be jetting off on Honeymoon this Christmas to Thailand; I really hope they have a wonderful time and enjoy a married life as successful as the day they created. It was a pleasure to photograph.
