Your Questions about how I work
DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY QUESTIONS
What is Documentary wedding photography / Reportage / Photojournalist Photography?
These terms refer to same thing: an observational approach where the photographer does not direct or pose people. It requires patient observation, knowing where the best pictures are likely to happen in advance, fast instinct, knowing people and gauging situations.
Are you a full time photographer?
Yes I am. Photography is my sole source of income and my focus is wedding photography however I do undertake other photography commissions, such as Newborn, Family Lifestyle, Portraiture & Feminine Beauty.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, I have full Public Liability, Professional Indemnity, Employers Liability and equipment cover.
Can you fit into the timing of our day?
It’s a good idea to discuss the timings for the day with me as early as possible to make sure there is time for me to get between different venues etc. I like to be at the ceremony around ½ hour before the start if possible to capture the general excitement. Ideally set aside 20-30 minutes at some point for some couple portraits and 15-20 minutes for group photos.
Can we provide you with a meal?
Yes please. It’s really helpful to be fed at the same time as the other guests. No one wants to be photographed eating, so this is a good time for me to have a break but be ready for the speeches & after dinner entertainment. There’s no need to seat me with your guests, a quiet spot away from the party where I can check through the images from the day so far will be perfect.
How many group photos do we need?
I usually suggest having just a few family group photos, five or six should cover it and one full group shot if the situation allows. I can help you plan which you need.
When will my photographs be ready?
I aim, where possible, to put a sneak preview on my website and facebook within a week or two of your wedding. Within six to eight weeks, I will edit all your photographs and set up your online gallery, then send you the digital images on a beautifully presented memory stick. From there, we can discuss the album layout if you are ordering one.
Who owns the copyright?
There is often confusion over what is meant by copyright. I grant my clients the printing rights (Personal Usage License) to the images and supply high resolution digital files so they can print unlimited copies for personal use. However I maintain copyright ownership as per the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. For full terms and conditions, please contact me.
Do you supply black & white as well as colour?
I try to give a mixture of both. Some images work better in colour and some in black & white.
How much Photoshop / retouching work do you do?
My aim is to make a great picture in camera so my post-processing work is kept to a minimum. I personally colour correct, straighten, crop and retouch any glaring distractions that detract from the picture. I like my images to be realistic, so I don’t generally airbrush skin or change anyone’s shape.
I’m having a small/midweek/unusual wedding – how flexible are you?
I understand that weddings come in all different shapes and sizes. I’d love to hear about your plans and I’m very happy to discuss how I might be able to fit into those. Just let me know what you need and we can look at working something out to suit everyone!
When and how will I need to pay?
A non-refundable booking fee is required at the time of booking, this will secure the date for you and you alone. The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to the wedding date. You can pay by bank transfer or credit/debit card. Albums can be ordered anytime, before your wedding at the package price and after the wedding at the current price at the time, and are payable on ordering.
Hopefully you’ve had a good look through my website and decided you like my style. Now check that I’m available for your wedding date and give me a few details about your day, using either the availabilty button or contact form below, so that I can prepare a quote. We can then arrange to meet up/Skype/Call for a chat. When you’re ready to book fill in the online booking form I’ll send you. Once I receive that with the booking fee your date will be secured!
